Golf Smart Academy teaches golf instruction that is backed by science. The information you'll find on this channel and on golfsmartacademy.com is sound golf instruction and not just for "entertainment value" like many of the other sites out there that employ golf personalities.
Tyler Ferrell, founder of Golf Smart Academy, has personally studied the body and collected 3D data on players of all abilities. He has organized his findings into simple instruction videos that teach the key movements of the golf swing as well as how the movements relate.
Here at Golf Smart Academy we'll always give you the "How" and "Why" of our teachings and you can trust that the answer is backed by scientific data.
We are here to help you get the most out of this great game. Happy golfing!

Fixing Open Club Face for Straighter Shots
Struggling with closing an open club face is a common issue that amateur golfers face. From an open club face position, you'll have to time closing the club face rapidly, or swinging left to accommodate the club face relationship. This concept video will help you clarify what you need to do to balance an overly open club face during the start of the release.

Connecting The Bracing To The Release
Переглядів 1,5 тис.19 годин тому
The release begins at delivery position, and what you do with your body and your arms have to compliment each other in order for your swing to work. Often times, if you are struggling with what the arms do, you can work on the body. If you are struggling with the body, you can work on the arms. By going between these two areas of control, you can understand, and train, the movement even better....
Investigating Arm Bracing
Переглядів 58614 днів тому
This breakdown can be very useful for players relying too much on the smaller muscles of the arms at the bottom of the swing. Golfers in this category will usually struggle with consistency and power, while displaying inefficiencies such as a shorter "flat-spot", a stall of the body, and a lack of width through impact. If you struggle with one or more of these faults, this brief investigation i...
9 To 3 - Training Solid Contact and The Release
Переглядів 1,2 тис.21 день тому
This classic drill works on the swing from waist height to waist height, or as some call it, 9 to 3. This drill works on the timing when the arms are doing the majority of the work as they transfer speed from the body to the clubhead. This drill is very versatile, and can be used to work on a lot of things around impact. The most common ways to use it is to work on the amount of rotation/side b...

How To Use Your Hips In The Golf Swing | Rotation & Pressure Shift
Little off subject but I would like to get your advice about ulnar deviation with the right wrist. At what point in the down swing does the right wrist release into ulnar ? Thanks
Think this is something I need to work on. I don't feel any bracing with my lower body. I've been working on clearing my left hip but really don't feel bracing or extension of the arms. thanks for the video.
Not sure what the conclusion is here? If you purely push the handle forward it logically doesn’t seem to open the face.
“Move the grip down” Meanwhile moves the grip up 🙄
Recently I bought a new driver. A TM Stealth 2. I had always an open clubface at the ball and I changed all the adjustments you can make with the shaft position. And I tried really everything from grip to positions in my swing to get the ballflight straight. With no success. And today, on the range, I remembered a quote from somebody on the internet that you cannot release the club too early. So instead of trying to roll my hands thru the impact zone to close the clubface in time or slow down my lower body with no positive effect, I rolled/released my hands as early as possible in the downswing. This is most probably just a feel but it works. From a push/push-slice to a very long and powerful and perfectly straight ballflight because of Jack's advice. Thank you Jack! My feel hitting those terrible high pushes was always that my hips are too fast opening and the arms are left behind but this was also not true. Now I can turn as fast as I want because I release as soon as possible.
Same as a hammer throw in athletics, simple explanation 😊
Put a jacket on bro
You need to explore face orientation much more . Such factors as 1 . Grip strength 2. Forearm pronation / supination 3. Wrist extension / flexion 4. Rib cage rotation are all factors in the orientation of the clubface at various stages of the swing .
✌️ "promo sm"
This is a really good video explaining the club face orientation and rotation. It's worthy of more likes! I struggle with tension in my arms trying to swing too hard and don't close the face to get it square at impact. Thanks for the video.
Then u need to relax your arms, or set the club deeper into your fingers. You're swinging the club like a baseball bat.
Jim looks like he's got an almost 3 finger overlap grip
Perfect. I needed this and the Driver Based Swing video.
Great video for the "feels"...
My man knows exactly what 3 inches looks like
Walbergh seems like one of the few quality people in “pedowood” Golf is tough
No way this guy breaks 20… massive slice on drivers from numerous swing defects
Strong grip and closed stance with one of the most over the top swings I’ve seen. My man is committed to the power fade lol
He has a bent right arm and a persistent over the top outside to in move. I am guessing he is a slicer. Very athletic however.
He's a wacko that maybe took to many shots to the head
Can you imagine being as into golf as he is, having played for as long as he has, being in as good of shape as he is, having access to the best courses, coaches and clubs in the world, not to mention having your own back yard golf Mecca...and having this bad of a swing!!?? Wow. Golf is hard.
Yeah, but the question is does he have the TIME to get better. He plays a lot, but he doesn't practice enough which are VERY different things.
The athleticism is obviously there. Just needs some quality lessons.
His impact and follow through is just really top notch. Oddly the backswing is a little wild with some unnecessary routing and across. A little ot on the way down. Looks too outstretched with his arms at address. Hollywood scale.....one of the best!!
Look at his alignment. Very closed stance. And the aim of his swing and contact point on the club head is way toward the heel of the driver. Unusual swing and arc of swing to club head to ball impact point.
Mark Wahlberg is a strong guy who has done a lot of upper body training so will tend to go to that as a power source. From what I have seen these strong types who fire their muscles fast have the most difficulty in being able to change their patterns especially their leg action as the upper body wants to take over..
Awesome video. The books and all I’ve read or UA-cam’s I’ve watch just said ball contact first. Never heard of sliding the club Helped me a lot. Thanks
10 years ago. wow.
great vid. Thanks! could you do a vid about what "getting out of the way" means...I hear it all the time and really dont understand exactly what it means. (and why its so important)
Wow, great lesson!! Not many teaching pros can teach like this. Sub'd! Can I ask you a question please? I'm practicing what I think is 'an end to end rotational swing' with a minimum arm movement. But, with this approach, my swing plane is too horizontal. Not vertical enough compared to say 'hit it like a hammer' approach? Can you please share an advice how to work around this? Or, a flatter swing plane isn't a problem?
Amazing video. Its so counter-intuitive that if you didn't have all the data to back it up everyone would think you're a quack. Mind blowing information.
This is my swing rn no doubt. Finding close club face over the top pulls. Good contact but directionally hard to control.
Show off!
Is this lead arm turning motion in the forearm, or the whole arm? So in transition, say the lead elbow points to the target line. Do we try to pronate the wrist withouth moving the elbow, or rotate the entire arm so the elbow points "above" the target line?
It's the forearm, but the elbow will supinate to some degree too.
love this
When I hit balls the other day I found that if I used my legs according to master Stuart. If my left hip didn't move forward at all. It felt like there was a slight delay with my upper body and arms as the left hip went back and away from the target. Also it seemed like if my left hip would go towards the target when I started my downswing. I would tend to pull the ball. Does this make sense
🤔
Golf isnt a real sport
thx for the video mate! question: does rate of closure change with longer clubs or is it the same thru the bag? i noticed that I draw all my clubs up to 5 iron, but 4 hybrid thru driver I fade everything. why is that what do you think? thank you!
Even as a +2 amateur, I find achieving the correct delivery position at P6 very challenging. Hands are always too wide at this point. When I preset to the correct delivery position, I always feel like I'm going to hit it out to the right unless I really work my lower body really hard to 'square it up'
Very helpful lesson!
Guy is quadruple jointed like a giant ferret😂
Like the video, but doesn’t really explain much other than “you’re an amateur and doing this wrong.” I know I am doing that wrong😂
Haha that was my first reaction too. But actually if you think about it, hes saying applying force to the direction of the butt end of the club throughout the swing. Rather than flipping the clubhead at the ball. Its a feel thats probs worth a try
Love the haircut! Thanks for the videos.
Cannot see the clubface
Jack is talking about the left side/ back of left arm release into the ball. You can’t release too early from the top as long as left side is leading.
Very interesting concept, will try and see
Your lesson was a good one, but your mobile home leaves a bit to be desired.🤔
Huh?
I can't even imagine the number of Mr. Miyagi comments this one is getting 😂
This is a Thinking Out Loud video. This works for him only.
Maybe a good time to revisit review, given his success and driving stats on Senior tour. Probably more in the range of average golf guys and senior men. Any real changes in 2023/24
A lot of jargon, young man.
😂😂
